Laser Vein Removal Overview
Spider veins are small blood vessels that appear close to the surface of the skin. Commonly seen on the face, hips and legs, spider and varicose veins can be red, purple, or blue branching or web-like patterns near the surface of the skin. Laser vein removal at Surface Skin Spa in Plano, TX is a simple procedure for reducing the appearance of spider veins and broken capillaries. Surface Skin Spa uses a 1064 NM wavelength that targets the blood in the vessel. It hits vein with enough heat and energy to where it collapses the walls and coagulates the blood flow, encouraging your body to absorb it. Because this wavelength is safe for all skin types, the outer layer of the skin is left undamaged. Laser vein removal helps to improve or eliminate the appearance of spider and varicose veins, which affect many adults, so patients can feel comfortable showing off their skin.
Laser Vein Removal Procedure Technique
Before the treatment begins, the technician will examine the patient's veins and decide if they are a good candidate for laser treatments. After an ultrasound gel is applied to the skin for protection, the technician will gently go over the treatment area, targeting the visible veins. The tip of the laser is chilled to protect the outermost layer of the skin and to prevent any kind of adverse reactions. After the treatment is performed, a post-procedure balm will be applied to promote healing so the patient can continue with their everyday activities.
What to Expect with Laser Vein Removal
During the session, patients may feel a slight pin prick sensation, but ultimately the treatment is comfortable. When treatment is done, the veins will appear red and swollen (resembling cat scratches). This response is normal and a positive clinical end point. Although rare, bruising may be a possible side effect. It is helpful to elevate the legs for 24 – 48 hours after the procedure and to wear compression socks. Multiple treatments are typically recommended due to the fact that there is a main "feeder" vein that acts like a trunk of a tree and the spider veins are simply the "branches." Veins should get smaller and less noticeable with each treatment, but the amount of treatments needed vary with each patient.
Laser Vein Removal Expected Costs
The expected cost for laser vein removal is $150 for 15 minutes. While it may seem short, a large surface area can be treated in that time frame.

Laser Vein Removal FAQs
Patients who are good candidates for laser vein removal have visible veins on their body, including the thighs and lower legs, that cause them to avoid shorts and swimsuits out of embarrassment. Some patients also develop spider veins on their face, which can be minimized or erased by laser vein therapy. Patients should be in good general health before the procedure and should tell their doctor if they have a history of blood clots or may be pregnant.
How Soon Will I See Results?
Some results can usually be seen immediately after treatment. However, it is not uncommon for the treated veins to remain visible for 3 – 6 weeks before dissipating. This is due to residual clotted blood in the vessel. A red scab may form under the skin. It may appear for a few weeks and then will be reabsorbed by the body. This is normal and a sign that the treatment is working.
What To Do Before a Session?
Patients should disclose any medical conditions or medications that are being taken. Patients should also avoid the use of self-tanning lotions, tanning booths, and sun bathing at least two weeks prior to a laser treatment. Before a laser vein removal treatment of the legs, patients should shave the area and not apply lotion to their legs on day of their appointment. For a facial vein treatment, patients should shave any facial hair just before their appointment.
