Eyelash Extension Procedure

Prior to your eyelash extensions consultation and appointment, you should arrive at our facility without any makeup on and minimal skin care. During the appointment, your Surface Skin Spa aesthetician will start to apply the upper eyelash extensions to create the desired look that was talked about in your consultation. Using a medical-grade adhesive, your aesthetician will carefully isolate a single natural eyelash and then apply an eyelash extension to the base of the natural lash. In most cases, a full set of lashes may take about 2 – 3 hours to complete, but a touch-up appointment typically lasts less than one hour.

What to Expect

You should avoid washing your eyes or showering, as well as steam or sweating, for at least 24 hours after your lashes are applied. It is important to be gentle when you have eyelash extensions, and you should refrain from rubbing your eyes, pulling on your lashes, or using an eyelash curler. Additionally, you should not use oil-based, wax, cream, or waterproof cosmetics on and around your eyes, and only use mascara that is safe for extensions. As a way to properly preserve your eyelash extensions, you should carefully clean your eyelashes with an oil-free makeup remover. If cared for properly, extensions can last around 2 – 4 weeks before a touch-up appointment may be necessary.

Eyelash Extension FAQs

What If I have Allergies and Sensitivities?

Prior to your initial eyelash extension appointment, you should discuss with your aesthetician about doing a patch test within 24 hours of your treatment. This is a great way to make sure you are not allergic or sensitive to any of the products used in eyelash extensions. Though they are not mandatory, patch tests are recommended for any individuals who may have a history of allergies or eye sensitivities.

Any Extension Tips?

In order to maintain and care for your extensions, we recommend the use of an oil-free makeup remover on a cotton Q-tips to clean your eyes and remove makeup. Additionally, you should be careful in the shower in order to avoid spraying your eyes directly with water. A headband can also be helpful to keep sweat out of your extensions when you are working out. It is also suggested to use a primer following a shower in order to put the lashes back into a straight position.

Will This Ruin My Lashes?

A number of patients may be concerned that eyelash extensions may ruin or have a negative effect on their natural lashes. However, this is only the case if proper care of the extensions is not taken. It is also important that extensions be applied and removed by a trained, licensed, and certified eyelash extension specialist in order to better preserve your natural lashes. At Surface Skin Spa, we provide safe extension removal to make sure your natural lashes are not damaged.
